Alan Caiger-Smith (1930-2020) was initially involved in the design and production of pottery figures but in the early 1950s established the Aldermaston Pottery in the place his family was already living; for a time he had a second workshop in Marylebone, London. The pottery lasted for almost 40 years and Caiger-Smith became known for his iridescent glazes (Source: Obituary in The Times 27 March 2020).
